The Mount Hope Foundation
The Indonesian Mission
The work of the Mount Hope Foundation in Indonesia is a remarkable legacy of faith and mission.
It comprises of one organisation with three key entities;
Mount Hope Training Centre (Est.1998)
Tawangmangu Theological College (Bible College - Est.1968)
Mount Hope Christian College (University - Est.2019)
First begun in 1968 by Marissa’s grandparents, Dal & Dorothy Walker, who left New Zealand as missionaries to Indonesia. Launched Tawangmangu Theological College (Sekola Tinggi Theologi Tawangmangu) in Tawangmangu, Central Java, Indonesia.
It has trained and sent out hundreds of Christian pastors and leaders across Indonesia and to other parts of the world.
The work was then led by Marissa’s parents, Sam & Carol Soukotta, from 1984 to the present day.
In 1998 Sam Soukotta had a vision to create Mount Hope Training Centre in the heart of West Kalimantan to educate and raise the standard of living of the Dayak people. They are considered one of the poorest tribes in Indonesia. The impact of Mount Hope in that region has been remarkable, with the standard of living greatly improved as well as many children and families coming to Christ.
In 2016 Sam & Carol received a vision from God to develop a University on the same site as the Bible College. The Mount Hope Christian College, education to university level for fields other than theology. After three years of prayer and hard work, in 2019, they were given accreditation by the Indonesian Government to officially establish Mount Hope Christian College, which offers three degree-level programmes in Bachelor of Visual Communication Design, Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Tourism.

TAWANGMANGU THEOLOGICAL COLLEGE
Tawangmangu, Central Java, Indonesia
The Tawangmangu Bible School was founded in 1968 by Marissa’s grandparents, Dal and Dorothy Walker, who went out as missionaries to Indonesia from Elim Wellington in New Zealand.
It is situated on the slopes of Mt. Lawu in Central Java, Indonesia, and has a robust reputation in the nation for producing faithful and solid Christian leaders. Today, there are hundreds of pastors, church planters, and teachers across Indonesia who were trained at the Bible School and have gone on to impact the nation.
It offers a 2-year diploma in Christian Ministry and a 4-year theology degree. Sam and Carol Soukotta (Marissa’s parents) took over the leadership of the Bible School from 1984 to the present day.
MOUNT HOPE CHRISTIAN COLLEGE (University)
Tawangmangu. Central Java, Indonesia
In 2016, Sam and Carol received a vision from God to develop a university on the same site as the Bible College. After three years of prayer and hard work, Mount Hope Christian College was accredited by the Indonesian government. It currently offers three degree-level programmes: Bachelor of Visual Communication Design, Bachelor of Business, and Bachelor of Tourism.
Most students live in the halls of residence and take part in prayer meetings and worship services – this includes several Muslim students.
Amazingly, the Indonesian government offered scholarships to the first 100 students, who are just about to graduate this September 2024.
